Writings

New Millennium Writings is pleased to present the New Millennium
Awards 23 for Fiction, Poetry, & Nonfiction
(which had a final deadline of January 31, 2007)

The winning entries are now online. They will also appear in our 2007 issue, which contestants will receive in late Summer. Winners were as follows:

Jacob Appel, of New York, NY, won the $1,000 Fiction Award for "Hazardous Cargoes," a story about the relationship between a trucker hauling a load of penguins and the all too human stowaway he discovers behind his seat.

Philip T. Carter of Sanibel, FL won the $1,000 Short-short Fiction Award for "Tomorrow or Saturday, Certainly Snow," a quietly compelling story consisting of a dying man's phone call to a former lover.

Patricia Brieschke of Waccabuc, NY won the $1,000 Nonfiction Award for "Cracking Open," a powerful memoir of a mother's efforts to protect her chronically ill love-child during a time of hardship.

Vivian Shipley of North Haven, CT, and Ruth Thompson of Colden, NY share the $1,000 Poetry Award. Shipley won for "Mango Season In Cambodia", a haunting and richly metaphorical poem about the bittersweetness of life after the death of a loved one. Thompson won for "Fat Time", a rich and sumptuous celebration of colors in nature… and much more.
