Fiction: Vic Sizemore of Lynchburg, VA, has won the New Millennium Writings First Place Award for "Hush Little Baby," his story about a man wrestling questions of romance, immortality, and cosmic justice as he tends his ailing daughter and budding romance with a teacher
Nonfiction: Ellen Graf of Cropseyville, NY and Jann Banales of Riverside, CA, tied for first. Graf won for "The Resiliency Gene," the account of her husband's struggle to "cross the landbridge between Chinese and English." Banales won for "Unspoken Goodby," about a camping trip with a favoritie cousin before his accidental death.
Poetry: Barbara Knott, of Lawrenceville, GA, won for "Boxwood," a poem about the life and death of a beloved grandmother.
Short-short Fiction: Carol J. Arnold of San Francisco and M.M. De Voe of New York tied for first. Arnold won for "Time Capsule," about passions unearthed along with a secret time capsule two friends buried 40 years before. De Voe won for "Empty," about a young woman trapped alone in an office filled with malfunctioning digital devices.
