'Y2K Writing Prize'
$1,000 in Cash Prizes, Plus Publication
in our special Year 2000 issue
For the work that best expresses the significance of the coming millennium either personally or to society at large, and makes best use of it in a work of prose or poetry. Two runners-up will also be published. Works must somehow touch upon the next millennium, broadly defined. Entries may be about love, humor, technology, spirituality, war, alienation, hope, beauty, apocalypse or any other topic, as long as they refer in some way to the coming millennium. Note: This contest is separate from our New Millennium Awards, which are general in subject, and judged separately.
Follow these guidelines for the 'Y2K Writing Prize':
- No restrictions as to style or form, but the text or subtext must refer to the next millennium in some manner.
- Winners and selected finalists published in the Spring 2000 Special Issue issue of NMW, which you will receive for entering.
- Entries may be sent anytime in the calendar year 1999. Act now so you don't forget.
- Simultaneous & multiple submissions welcome.
- Include $10 check1 payable to NMW with each submission. Each story, poem or article is counted as a separate entry and requires a separate entry fee. Send only one story, article or poem per $10 entry fee.
- Fiction, Nonfiction and poetry all welcome. Each piece should total no more than 2,000 words.
- Include name, address and the initials "Y2K" on title sheet or cover letter. Clip or staple submissions together with cover letter or title page.
- Manuscripts recycled, not returned. Send a business-size SASE for contest results, which will be mailed in February or March of the Year 2000.
- Entries will be judged by the staff of New Millennium Writings.
